Moving the ExmonDM database (on-premise)

To move the Exmon DM database between SQL Server instances, follow these instructions.

Moving the database

First, we need to move the database between servers. Here is an outline of the tasks needed:

  1. Take the Exmon DM databases offline to make sure no application is currently changing the ExmonDM data.

  2. Back up the ExmonDM database.

  3. Restore the ExmonDM database on the new server.

  4. Create an SQL Login user with db_owner privileges on the new ExmonDM database.

Sending the connection string

The connection string to ExmonDM needs to be updated in Exmon's metadata.

  1. Open service such as One Time Secret
  2. Paste the connection string to the new SQL server with the new SQL login into the service
  3. Send the link to help@exmon.com

Exmon staff will update the metadata as soon as possible to get ExmonDM up and running again.

Note that moving the database can affect any other applications that use the ExmonDM data, such as PowerBI or Tableau, so be aware that after moving the database you might need to open those applications and change their connections too.
